Advice on budget build with Ubuntu OS

Asked by Stewart Moran

Hello,

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask, but here goes. Wish to build a non-gaming basic home / office desktop computer. Would like to run Ubuntu OS, and have ability to upgrade in the future. Primary uses, web surfing, e-mail, video streaming, plus light accounting / bookkeeping. Have HDMI TV which I would prefer to use as monitor, plus speakers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. AMD system preferred.

Thanks in advance for your assistance, or please point me in the right direction.

Stew

For these tasks you need a very basic system indeed. Minimun system requirements as quoted in Ubuntu Minimum Specifications:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements

# 1 GHz x86 processor
# 1GB of system memory (RAM)
# 15GB of hard-drive space (although this can be split onto 2 drives, a 5Gb / and a 10Gb /home fairly easily)
# Graphics card and monitor capable of 1024 by 768
# Either a CD/DVD Drive or a USB port (or both)

If you buy a PC with or above those specs you will be fine. You will need an HDMI capable video card if you want to use it with your TV.

Except accounting and HDMI (I use VGA for TV), it's what I do with a netbook of two years old (Eee PC).
So very light configuration.

Can you help with this problem?
