Installation problem

Asked by Mat H

Hi i have a Fujitsu Amilo 1718i laptop and it had Karmic 9.10 on it. I've got the Desktop 10.10 cd which i ordered and received in the post. I have a 500Gb hard drive and enough memory for it.
After running the 10.10 cd i get 108.140468 buffer error on device loop0 and other times (ernno)5 input/output error followed by installer crashed.I spent hours or best part of the day trying to get it working tried about 13 times with no luck.
Have purchased a laser cd cleaner and ran that a few times and i know now that is not the problem.
Checked the new 10.10 cd for damage there is a few very fine scratches and it seems to be Ok.
Ran a hard drive check twice and that too is A OK.

Have managed a few times to get past the format stage and start copying then i get the ernno error.

Can anyone help.

Matt

Two ideas:

1) A USB boot may be more reliable -- you can place the ISO onto a USB stick.

2) the ISO itself may be corrupt when you downloaded it. Check the MD5 sum

Thanks for your reply i found out what it was and basically the disk was faulty or the very fine scratches and marks affected the installation.Recently purchased Ubuntu magazine and used that CD and it booted and ran beautifully no second attempts !

Cheers Mat
