Problem Meerkat 10.10 installation

Asked by Mat H

Hi i tried to install Meerkat 10.10 after i decided to get rid of Ubuntu 9.10 which i also installed in the past.
My computer is an Fujitsu Amilo 1718i laptop with a Wd 500Gb hard drive.
When i run up the Desktop 10.10 CD just as it starts up the network wifi light on the key board goes green ?
When the CD starts to fail sometimes it shows 1st process :310 : GLib-WARNING **: getpwiuid_r():failed due to unknown user id (0)
stdin: error 0

Sometimes i get terminal information showing 108.140468 buffer error on device loop0
Othertimes i get to arrange the hard drive partitians and onto the copying stage then i get an (Erno)5 input/output error followed by installer crashed.

I've recently purchased a cd laser cleaner and used that a few times and im sure now that is not the problem.
" done a complete check on hard drive faults and there is none,
The cd looks clean although i can see very faint marks i dont think thats the problem.

Can anyone help love Ubuntu hate Windows think my laptop needs some TLC.
p.s have installed two Operating systems with new hard drives before.

Cheers Matt

did you do an md5sum check on the file you downloaded?
did you burn it as slowly as possible to the cd?
did you check the cd for errors?

google "ubuntu md5sum check" for instructions on how to do an md5sum check

Still check the CD for errors as well as test the RAM so we know everything is good :)
