Que version recomiendan de Ubuntu

Tengo una PC con Pentium 4 a 1.8 Ghz., 768 de RAM, 40 GB de Disco Duro, tengo instalado el Win XP, quiero probar Ubuntu, pero leyendo un poco en internet, me doy cuenta que la ultima versión tal vez no la soporte mi máquina, asi es que esa es mi duda, qué versión de las anteriores puede ser la mejor para mi PC. saludos.

Hola, puedes probar sin instalar, baja la version NETBOOk de UBUNTU.com, es mas ligera
