Unable to install

Asked by Eugenio Angueira

I am unable to install Ubuntu. I get the following error message "process:269 GLib-WARNING**:getpwuid_r():failed due to unknown user id"

I downloaded the installer (not the windows installer, the regular installer), burned to a CD, it starts to run but then stops with that error message. Is there a solution? The computer does have Windows installed.

You're installing 10.10 I assume. Two things to check:
1)Disable any non-present devices in the boot sequence. The floppy disk is the usual culprit here. Few people have them anymore, and for some reason, the 10.10 installer many times complains about no media present in fd0.
2)Complaints about "Windows being hibernated" -- typically not even the normal windows install, but some embedded version used to play CD/DVDs without a full boot. Sidestep this problem by jumping into the language selection F6 before the normal graphics stuff would show up.
I had both of these problems.
Good Luck
