Netbook Install Freeze 10.10

Asked by David Wildy

I know the answer is posted somewhere, but I am having a difficult time finding it. I am installing the 10.10 edition on a DELL Latitude E6400 Notebook using the USB drive method. I am trying to use the alongside option, with Windows 7 Professional 32-bit as the other OS. I get to the Who Are You? screen, answer the questions and the Forward button never lights up. The Full Name is checked, the password is strong and the matching is checked. It does not make any sense. Solutions?

I might have made a mistake. I swear my user was in lowercase. I went back and started the process over and this time I verified a lowercase user name and it let the install go forth. I am an IT person, just getting into Linux, if lowercase user names are a standard protocol, then you might want to document that on the screen for the average user to see.

David: It was a bug that you didn't get a proper error message when trying to use upper-case characters in your username; I've already fixed this bug for the next Ubuntu release.
