Ayuda con Virus

Tengo una netbook con un linux viejo (no recuerdo cuál, lo estoy buscando) y se dañó a causa de un virus. La netbook no tiene otra plataforma mas que linux. Me dijeron que instalándole ubuntu restauro todo, aunque pierdo los archivos que tenía. No me importa perder nada. Lo que me importa es volver a echar a andar la netbook. Sí enciende, aunque no me permite ingresar a ninguna carpeta ni accesar a internet. En estos momentos me encuentro descargando ubuntu. ¿Instalando ubuntu puedo eliminar el virus y dejar la computadora como nueva?

While viruses affecting Linux-based operating systems exist, they are extremely rare in the wild, so it seems unlikely that your present Linux-based system is infected with a virus. However, whether or not it is infected with a virus, anything wrong with the software on your netbook will disappear if you erase the disk and install a new operating system.
