Is that the message, or is the message "The canary thread is apparently starving. Taking action."?

At what point in the installation does that error occur?

Have you verified the md5sum of the .iso file that you burned to CD, and also verified the CD using the official method?

What version of Ubuntu are you installing, and are you using the Desktop, Netbook, Alternate, Server, or some other installation CD?

I'm using HP Pavilion 1502tu modal laptop. It is 32 bit. I'm installing ubuntu 10.10 version from LiveCD. The live cd is distributed by FOSSEE team.

Have you verified the md5sum of the .iso file that you burned to CD, and also verified the CD using the official method?

I verified the md5sum of that .iso file and also the CD. no errors found during the process.

You said that the live cd is distributed by the FOSSEE team. Is it the exact same CD as the official Ubuntu Desktop Install CD? If not, I recommend trying to install with the official Ubuntu Desktop Install CD. If so, I recommend trying to install with the official Ubuntu Alternate Install CD.

Yes it is... And also I downloaded ubuntu 10.10 from the official site, checked with winmd5sum then burned to cd and tried to install it. Then also I got the same error... and I couldn't able to install it.

I'm trying this from the past fifteen days with out giving atleast 6 hours rest to my laptop. But I couldn't do this.

Did you also test the integrity of the burned CD, using the utility available when booting from the CD?

To do this in Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu 10.10, boot from the CD, and when the "keyboard" and "human" symbols appear on the bottom of the purple screen, press Spacebar. A menu comes up where you can select your language; select whatever language you want, and then that menu disappears and reveals a menu with the options:

Start or install Ubuntu
Start Ubuntu in safe graphics mode
Check CD for defects
Memory test
Boot from first hard disk

Select "Check CD for defects" in the middle of the screen.

(See http://zootlinux.blogspot.com/2010/05/check-disc-for-defects-in-ubuntu-1004.html if those instructions don't make sense.)

If that says the CD is bad, then you should burn (or otherwise obtain) a new CD. If it says it's good, then I suggest trying to install from the Alternate Install CD. If that doesn't work (and you've md5summed the Alternate CD .iso image and checked it for defects as well), then please post again.

I tested the integrity of the cd. It showed that there were no errors with the cd. I checked all my existing cds and all of them were fine. I think the problem is not with the cds. Previously, 2 months back I installed Ubuntu along side of the Windows 7 os. At that time it worked fine. But unfortunately It became necessary to reinstall my windows 7. for that I used the recovery discs given by HP(mine is HP laptop). Then the recovery cd, reformatted my entire hard disc and installed all the available 320 gb into one primary partition.

Then I tried to reinstall ubuntu along the other side. The setup is fine untill, it asks "Who are you?". From then onwards the "Forward" button is not clickable and the error is similar to above. "The canary thread is apparantly starving. Taking action" and some other errors which are there in the above logs.

The I tried with other options of installations too... "Erase and use entire harddisk", "Specify partitions Manually (Advanced)". But I couldn't do it. Now I have nothing on my hard disc.

Is there will be any link between the BIOS and this installation??

Executive summary: Your username is invalid. Make it consist entirely of lower-case letters, and your problem should be solved. Read below for a lengthier discussion.

That was extremely relevant information.

I don't think your installation is functioning incorrectly at all.

Often, "The canary thread is apparently starving," is not actually an indication of a problem. (Sometimes it is, though.) In this case, it is probably unrelated to your inability to proceed forward with the installation. My guess is that this text did not actually appear on your screen by itself, but that you had to press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to see it. There's plenty of scary-looking text when you do that, but most if it is not an indication of a problem.

The reason you cannot proceed forward with the installation is almost certainly because you have entered an invalid username. Your full name can be just about anything, but your username has much tighter restrictions. Try making your username consist entirely of lower-case letters. That should fix your problem.

(This does, admittedly, reflect a design bug in the installation CD -- there should be a message informing you of why you cannot continue forward with the installation. None of the testers had a problem with it, so nobody assumed it would be an issue. Future releases of Ubuntu, starting with 11.04, will produce text explicitly telling the user that the username is invalid.)

In the unlikely event that using a different username doesn't solve your problem, please post again.

Mr Eliah Kagan... Thank you for you support. I was really made that mistake. Thank you so much.

I installer installed the Ubuntu and asked me to reboot. Then I pressed reboot. After that it showed me something like...

**************************************************************
The system is going down for reboot now!
Modem-Manager: cought signal 15. Shutting down..

...
...
closing all the unknown upgrade proces...
************************************************************

But the system is not restarting. When I pressed return key... Windows started booting normally. Why this happed?? please let me know this also

Sometimes, the last step, which is installing bootloader, fails. Don't ask me why.
The solution in this case is installing Grub2 (the famous bootloader) from Ubuntu CD. This works most of the time.
   https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20from%20LiveCD

You could also have an issue with shut down process. I'm less expert, but can try to help.
As you have an HP, for some rare computer, a HP Windows tool overwrite boot loader each time Windows is shut down (Windows, not Ubuntu). In this case, post and I will provide a solution.
