Asked by nikolas oddfellow

I want to use an external hard drive (memory) for my computer which runs on Ubuntu 10.4 but I am not sure where to find one that is compatible. Please help if you can. Thank you. :-)

All, they use a fairly standard hardware but if you avoid ones with dumb software like WesternDigital lifebooks then you should be ok. You can also check the HCL:

All external drives are usable. Ubuntu can install its own file system on any standard disk.

Everything I've used works fine as a filesystem, but some external usb enclosures have trouble booting -- particularly the older models (IDE + SATA).

Thank you for the answers. I feel much more confident that I'll find a suitable device now. Again, thanks. :0)
