Installing Ubuntu 10.10 on OCZ Vertex 2 SSD

Asked by ciaopaulo

When I try to install Ubuntu 10.10 on my OCZ Vertex 2 SSD the drive is not shown as present. GParted is unable to find any drives. However the drive works fine under Windows 7 (I'm sending this mail under Win7)

There is 30Gb free on the drive, which is currently unallocated.

Any ideas?

Motherboard is Gigabyte X58A-UD3R

Hi,

Changing SATA port fixed the problem. It seems to be an issue with the chipset driving the SATA port. SSD was originally plugged into Marvell 9128 port, changed to ICH10R port and it is detected fine.

See manual for details: http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-x58a-ud3r_v2.0_e.pdf

Thanks,

Paul
