Can't run from CD to try Ubuntu

Asked by Dale Karpisek

Downloaded ISO, burned to CD and it burned properly, I see several files and folders, and not just the single ISO file when exploring the CD. However when I try to boot from the CD I just get a screen with this message:

Busybox v1.15.3

(initramfs) can not mount /dev/loop0 (cd rom/casper/filesystem.squashfs)

Tried it on 2 different laptops, a Dell running xp and a Toshiba also running XP. Specs on Dell are:

Intel Pentium M, 1.6 Ghz, 1.0 GB ram, XP pro 2002 service pack 3. Can get bios version if needed.

So, any ideas??

Did you MD5 test the ISO you burned?
Did you burn it slowly?
Did you check the CD for defects once booted to?

FYI: the ISO file is not supposed to be there. It's like a sound file that you burn into an Audio-CD. You won't see the Audio(mp3/wav/whatever) files on the CD as in a normal filesystem anymore.

actionparsnip is right.
I got fed up and used an USB-stick, created with system -> administration -> startup disk creator under ubuntu, see ubuntu.com how to do it with windows.

@Tobias: what do you call Audio-CD. Even if some CD are labeled "Audio", there are classical CD-R.
@Dale: there is a strange bug. On some computers CD doesn't work but same image works if you use a USB stick. And sometimes it's the contrary.
Could you check MD5: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM ?
Could you try to install from a USB stick ?
Do you install alongside of Windows or inside Windows (Wubi) ?

Can you help with this problem?
