Ubuntu wont install

Asked by Joe Richardson

I have a computer with windows 7 on and I want to dual boot. I tried to load with a DVD from a magazine which I have used on my sons older computer as a live disk. The disk wont get to the live disk bit because of an error Glib warning get pwuid_r() failed due to unknown user id.

I then used the website which used Wubi to install

I selected ubuntu and got the same error message.

Wubi rather isn't an optimal option for dual boot.
Download the .iso file from official release page, verify CD integrity and make it a real dual boot.

The message you're seeing isn't the problem - it's a generic message that's normally hidden by the splash screen. Do you have an nvidia card or multiple monitors?

See this for some boot workarounds that may help: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132

The problem is... that the message is irrelevant. So really we have nothing to go on. When you boot you can try removing 'quiet splash'. That link I provided shows how to edit startup options. That will most likely show you the line that causes the halt.

I've seen one person disable their floppy drive in the BIOS and this fixed it for them. But let's find out more info on what is causing the problem before trying random fixes.

Can you help with this problem?
