Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.10 won't Boot on Aspire ZG5

Asked by Ashton

I'm attempting to install Netbook Remix 10.10 on My Aspire 1 ZG5 (8GB SSD, Linpus model). I'm using a bootable usb drive created by following the directions on the 10.10 site and I've passed the .iso through MD5SUM.

Basically, I can get to the welcome screen and proceed with the installation without any problems. Once the installation is finished and I'm prompted to restart, the netbook restarts and then remains at a black screen with an inactive command prompt in the top left hand corner.

I've recreated the USB installation a few times now (Completely formatting it each time) and I'm still not getting anywhere. The installation is also being made with the entire SSD available to it (My Linpus installation was really messed up).

So... any ideas? Maybe using an older version? I know someone who had 9.something running on theres.

Solution 1:

Doesn't appear to work. After installation it says it's rebooting and then just sits there. Force reboot and I get the exact same problem as before.

Solution 2:

There's no command line to add anything too.

Solution 3:

I don't own an external cd/dvd-rom drive.

Could you boot on Ubuntu USB key, choose "Try without install" and then open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T).
Then report result of command:
    lshw -class display
I need the model of your graphic card. The same bug for ATI/Nvidia/Intel is not solved by same solution.

About solution 3, you can replace CD by USB key.

Can you help with this problem?
