Need 10.04 LTS installation help on Toshiba laptop

Asked by mikehi

Toshiba Satellite P35-S629
1 GB RAM
XP SP3

CD/DVD drive is set as boot drive in BIOS. I am using 32-bit desktop version on CD (hope this is the right one). After trying to load from CD, Windows loads from hard drive.

How can I install Ubuntu? I want to get rid of XP and make this a Linux laptop. Do I need the netbook version?

Thanks,

Mike

I have a TOSHIBA LAPTOP (Tecra Intel Centrino) originally comes with Win Vista, i installed Ubuntu 10.10 (32Bits), using both methods CD ROM and USB Pen, very easy both options

Reboot your computer and press F12 or F2, you need to do this FAST, my LAPTOP dont Show options when i turn it on...
Then an icons appears in the bottom of the screen, select as your convinience, and then follow the instructions

Other way is ACCESS to the BIOS and change the Boot order (CD ROM, USB PEN, NET etc)
Put the CD or USB and wait for the UBUNTU install instructions

For your Computer 32 bits version is Ok, very nice OS !

Good LUCK !

It's installing 10.04 LTS now. I made removable device the first boot choice followed by CD/DVD drive, then saved it with F10 and rebooted with the 10.04 LTS CD in the drive. All is well.

Thanks so much.

I think this will be a good Ubuntu machine - my first notebook and third Ubuntu machine.

Looking forward to Unity.
