Ubuntu 10.04 boot initramfs error

Asked by Matt Darlington

Asus Netbook 1005hab boots and goes to a prompt that looks like this:
(initramfs)

Willing to reinstall / upgrade to 10.10, but the NetBook does not seem to want to boot off the USB that I crate with the universal USB installer. I did go into BIOS to ensure that USB boot was enabled and first in the list.

What is the quickest way to deal with this? Not looking for root cause at this point, just want to get it working.

BTW....probably very important. At boot the first line is:

"No init found. Try passing init=bootarg"

I am / was running Ubuntu 10.04 directly on my Netbook for 6+months. I am not using a USB key and there were more than 80GB free on my drive the last time I checked, about 2-3 weeks ago.

I was trying to move away frm MS WIN because, well.....it was horribly slow, and always failed when I needed it. Now, I want to give Linux a chance as a my desktop os, but frankly I am so "green" that most of what was in that post you sent seemed like greek.

When you boot, press esc when given the chance, then press 'e'. Edit the kernel line, remove "quiet splash" and add "debug". Then press enter and "b" Hope this helps.

OK....So your info helped me solve the problem.....turns out that you have to hit esc key to choose the boot device on the ASUS Netbook 1005HABs.

When I initially did the install I had WIN XP already installed and never had to deal with this, I just ran the install from the USB.

Anyway, thank you! As I had no data on this NetBook that I needed I wasn't looking to resolve anything, only install 10.10. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

You really helped me pull my head out of my orifice.
