The many threads about this error are very confusing/
Instead of using classical distro, could you try to install from:
    http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/alternative-download#alternate
This is the same distro, except there is not the graphical tool which is suspected to cause problem.
It it works, please mark question solved, and after I will provide this solution as a workaround in related bug reports.

This error message is harmless in and of itself. It is not the cause of your problem, even if it happens to be the last thing shown on the screen. We have released a fix for it in updates to 10.10 to try to reduce confusion (bug 649917) but this fix wasn't on the CDs.

The problem presumably reduces to "live CD never makes it as far as a graphical environment", which is pretty tricky to debug. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingCasper might help.

Could you boot from CD, choose "Try without install" and run System->Administration->Test System
Told me at which step it fails, and what are symptoms (error messages, state of screen, ...).

Can you help with this problem?
