New to linux

Asked by Mike McMullen

I can't find any utilities that you would find with windows. Like a control panel with things like network connections, add or remove programs. The only similarities with Windows I see is on line. Is there a book or guide that I can get that would explain the differences and similarities of Linux and Windows? I'm no whiz but I can usually fix any problem my family can cause to our computers, I feel a bit lost with Linux. The only icon I have on my desk top is the Ubuntu, no wall paper, no screen saver. Am I expecting Linux to be too much like Windows?

Thanks in advance for any help,
Mike

Mike,

Linux is certainly very different from Windows, it can be overwhelming at first - but if you stick with it, eventually WIndows will feel "weird".

For some basic, getting started help I'd recommend you check out the Ubuntu Manual - available at http://ubuntu-manual.org/

Enjoy Ubuntu,
George Standish
