Can I install ubuntu on DVD and run the system from it for evaluation

You don't install to DVD. You will burn the desktop DVD ISO to DVD (as sloly as yuo can and after MD5 testing it) and boot to the DVD. This will allow you to test the OS and it will run in RAM so will not modify your current OS
