Booting Ubuntu via flash drive on PPC Mac

Asked by jimwg

Seasons Greetings!

Subject line tells it all. I have a 8gig Kingston flash drive which I'd like to use to strut Ubuntu on computers in other neighborhoods (No CD want, just flash). Is this page accurate and the most non-techie friendly possible: https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/installation-guide/powerpc/ch05s01.html

I'd really like to try this ASAP since many in the county will be getting gift 2nd hand PPC Macs this month and I'd really like to wean them on Ubuntu from the get-go.

Thanks!

Jim in NYC

Download the PPC ISO of Lucid (which is supported 3 years) or Maverick (Supported 1.5 years) and MD5 test the ISO. Then you can use unetbootin:
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/unetbootin-windows-latest.exe
or PendriveLinux 1-2-3 app:
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/downloads/Universal-USB-Installer/Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.1.5.exe

In windows, to transfer the ISO to the USB. You can now boot to the USB. If your current PC is Ubuntu you can simply press ALT+F2 and run:
usb-creator
And this will let you transfer the ISO to the USB just the same.

Can you help with this problem?
