Install Ubuntu on Android laptop

Asked by TimH

I have a Toshiba AC100 Android based netbook. Can I install Ubuntu on it? If so, are there any tricks to doing so?

it's possible, but you might have limited operational capabilities. recommended hard drive space is 15 gigs, and the ac100 has only 8 gigs of flash nand memory acting as a hard drive.

whether you have enough of those 8 gigs left to install ubuntu is another story. how much of that is used by android and how much by graphics?

you can definitely download the ubuntu iso file and install it onto a usb drive and run it as a trial to see if the hardware is supported and such.

oh. there is a problem installing and running ubuntu on toshiba nb netbooks, so you might have problems with the ac100 as well.

oops.... it should say "how much of the 512 mb ram is used for graphics".

with 512 mb ram and 8 gig flash nand as hard drive, you can possibly run the lighter weight xubuntu. it's system requirements are 256 mb ram and 2 gigs hard drive. but you still have to see if it works with your hardware.

of course you can install ubuntu on an ac100-type netbook with arm-architecture. 8gb emmc space and 512mb ram is enough to install ubuntu.

here is a guide how to install ubuntu 11.10 on your toshiba ac100 including download links for the bootimage and preconfigured ubuntu image. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/TEGRA/AC100
