Want to overwrite 7.4 with 10.10.

Asked by bill hosch

Loaded a fresh hard drive with Feisty Fawn 7.4 over the weekend. Want to update to 10.10, and use a USB stick to do so. There is NOT a provision to jump that many versions in 7.4's menu system. Want to create USB stick at work on a Windows system to load at home. There is nothing to back up (fresh hard drive, nothing saved on it). Suggestions?

Use unetbootin. There is a version to use on Windows - http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

You wanna update your Ubuntu Feitsy to an Ubuntu Maverick? Or you wanna create an Ubuntu USB Stick?

If you want to update your Feitsy, do it:
     Update your sources.list:
             $sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
             Replace any "feitsy" by "maverick"
     Upgrade your computer
             $sudo apt-get update
             $sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
But the Feitsy is so old... If you want to do that, why not try a complete formmating?

If you want to create an Ubuntu USB Stick:
The Feitsy doesn't have a program to do it. But you can install the UNetBootin, that works in 7.04:
             $sudo apt-get update
             $sudo apt-get install unetbootin

There's a UNetBootin version for Windows, if you want to create the USB stick in Windows. A search for "UNetBootin" in Google will locate the download link.

I never used the 7.04 (I arrived in Ubuntu's world in the 8.10), so I don't know if the UNetBootin works in the Feitsy. If it does'nt work, there's a UNetBootin version for Windows. A search for "UNetBootin" in Google will locate the download link.

Can you help with this problem?
