You can install kubuntu on your installed Ubuntu by installing the

kubuntu-desktop

package, then you can switch to Ubuntu, kubuntu at login...

Please don't reply via mail to Launchpad mail notification but visit directly your question Launchpad site link.
Replying via mail to launchpad message might expose your email address to the net and you will give a lot of spam.

Then answering using mail will result into a confused thread (very long with unecessary replyed info) and you can't
manage your question state.

New to Ubuntu: read the Ubuntu Manual, it's very informative: http://ubuntu-manual.org/

You can install kubuntu-desktop package inside the already installed Ubuntu then you can choose at Ubuntu GDM or KDM login which Ubuntu do you ant to use Kde (kubuntu) or Gnome (Ubuntu).

If you have Ubuntu you can just install kde-core, it will reduce the number of duplicated apps installed. You can do the same in both desktops. The ONLY difference between the 2 systems is the default DE/WM and app list, the underlying OS is EXACTLY the same. You can install multiple desktops and choose which one you prefer at login.

You install the desktop in Ubuntu using software centre and you can choose between KDE and Gnome at login.

It will be more easy to manage one install and two window manager than two installations of OS (and multi-boot issues).
So I advise you to follow actionparsnip advice.

Can you help with this problem?
