Error installing Ubuntu 10.10

Asked by Steve Parish

" BusyBox v1.15.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.15.3-1ubuntu5) built-in shell (ash)
Enter ´help´ for a list of built-in commands.

(initramfs) mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //filesystem.squashfs failed: Input/output error
Can not mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs "

I get this error when trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 from CD from boot.

it is impossible to justify inability to mount a CD....

I tryed to install Ubuntu on 4 computers all have same error, I also burned and verified files on the disk and there fine.

I don't know if this helps but I can duel boot with Ubuntu just fine. But can't do a full install without that error

What can be done??

Steve.

The steps in this answer https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+question/130630 give you some hints and suggestions to troubleshoot.

To not waste your time the most important point is to check the md5sum of your iso image BEFORE to burn it to a cd or to load into a usbstick.

Thanks for the tip marcobra I forgot to check that. So I did a md5sum on the image file results come out ok no problems .. I did find a form online with a whole pile of people with the same problem.. A guy recommend to install using a flash drive so I am going to try that.

Could you put the link of "pile" into this thread, so I could have a look if it's same problem as you ?
Is it "can't find live file system in medium" ?

Yeah I did a disk check like you said found 2 file errors, so I burned another cd same thing 2 errors, then I re-downloaded the iso file again and burn it on a another cd same thing ... Must be bad cd's or burning software. I am now loading a flash drive to see if that will work. I will let you know

Thanks for the support marcobra
