Installation issue v10.10 at user setup screen.

Asked by Blaine

I am new to Ubuntu and installing for the first time. I am installing v10.10. The installation goes smoothly until I get too the user setup screen. I enter the user name, login name, computer name, password, confirm password, check mark use password to login but the "Forward" button remains grayed out. The install seems to install the OS and then says "Ready when you are". There are no error messages. I am installing on a Gateway Notebook, P4 1Gig Ram and 40 Gig drive. Any thoughts?

The computer name and your name have to be the same I think. I had the same problem. You'll notice that when you type your name in the first box (name) it will auto-fill the rest in for you. For example, I typed my name Tim and the the rest filled in as Tim-aspire-5515. All that's left for you do is choose your password. Once I did that the forward button was activated.

Thank you Tim. I would not have thought of that and it did solve the problem. :)

Thank you. I had to delete all I had entered and do it over to get the "forward" button. I don't like the computer name it assigned, but I suppose I can change that in the future. I also missed changing the radio button to require the password to log in, but again I suppose I can change that after installation is complete.

In a password, you must start by a letter, and after only uses letters, numbers and "-".
I think it's the name for computer name.
