Install gives an error

Asked by Daveo Agoxtinho

I have downloaded the latest iso file to Netbook Ubuntu 10.10 remix with Download accelerator plus ( it breaks the file in 4 to download faster).

During instalation with a USB key it gives an error like " the CD file is corrupted, clean the CD or CD reader lens"

My Note book is the Samsung N148.

Is there any way of checking if the USB memory files are correct?
could it be a problem with the USB key?

Thanks
Daveo

Did you MD5 test the ISO before you transferred it to the USB?

Where can I find that?

what if it is test goes bad? I have to down load again?

Many Thanks!

Its not an Ubuntu specific thing. If you didn't test the ISO how did you know the ISO was consistant or complete?

Well I guess that must be the problem...
I'm searching about that MD5 test right now!

I didn't knew that I should test the iso file, never had downloaded such kind of file.

So can u confirm If I have to download the file again? is there any better way of doing it?

Many thanks again!

Then you must redownload, then retest. If you don't test you have NO WAY of knowing if its good. you failed to test and transferred a bad image to the USB, then obviously got errors because the data is essentially garbage.
Try again, I bet it works (be sure to test the new image)

If you use torrents it increases the chance of a good image as the torrent protocol also has checking in it, you should stil MD5 test though. Torrents also download from peers and so put less strain on the canonical servers

Success!!!

The next *.iso download went curiously fast (20min;) and the checksum correspond.
