ready when you are freezing....

I am trying to install ubuntu on my PC however it will only get so far. i can get as far as the stage where i type in the 'who are you?' information and then it says at the bottom '>ready when you are...' and wont let me do anything??? why is this happening?

use lowercase characters and no numbers or nonletter characters in your username
