Ubuntu 10.10 installation freezes

Asked by Sander van Dorp

Hi,
I have downloaded the Ubuntu 10.10 netbook editon and created a bootable usbstick following the instructions on the ubuntu site. I can boot from the stick and use the live version without any troubles.

However i can't install the OS both from live or from the boot menu.
When i start the install it starts with the screen suggesting to plug in power, connect to internet etc
I do all those things and click forward.
At that point the mouse cursor changes to busy (the rolling circle), but nothing happens. I see once or twice some activity on my harddisk and after that it stays still. Nothing happens. I have waited for 1 hour, but still nothing happens.

The install program doesn't freeze because i can end it and shut the system properly down.
On the hard disk i have a recovery partion, a system partition, a windows partition and 35 GB of non partitioned space where i want to get my ubuntu.

Any idea or suggestions how i can fix this problem ?
I also tried the 64 bits desktop version and it has the same problem.
Both images verified with md5 checksum and are ok.

My hardware is a acer aspire as 3410-743G

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Did you check the USB for consistency?

Hmm, its in the same menu as when you choose test ram for errors (which I recommend you also do).

ok so we now KNOW you CD is perfect and the RAM is healthy. All I can personally suggest is boot options:
