Ubuntu & Windows 7 partitioned, need to completely delete windows 7 and just run ubuntu. Windows 7 is not functioning at all and 1 in 2 times I can't get the computer to boot windows 7. I don't care about saving personal files I just want 7 off.

Asked by Elizabeth Rachel Moorman

Recently bought a used laptop running Windows 7. I'm assuming it was a pirated version because after a security update it is hardly functional at all. Downloaded ubuntu on partition because the disk I made on another computer isn't loading (not sure why... Yay, Windows) and I would like to just have ubuntu. I really don't care about salvaging personal files but that would be nice. Windows 7 barely ever loads and just shuts down the computer whenever I try to run it. I'm new to ubuntu and don't have enough know-how to just go in and delete Windows from ubuntu... help?

just follow the instructions on the download page and you'll be fine. if you don't have a cd/dvd drive on your laptop, you'll want to follow steps 2 and 3 closely.

when it asks how you want to install ubuntu, choose "use entire space". this will erase windoze 7 completely.

you'll need to do an md5sum check to see that the download is not corrupt in anyway. please see the links below.

The disc I made isn't loading at all... is there any other way?

Probably the easiest procedure would be to install Ubuntu again, when you get the screen that says "Allocate drive space" choose the middle option of "Erase and use the entire disk". This should remove everything previously on your hard disk and replace it with Ubuntu and the remaining free space.

you probably have a bad copy. you'll need to download another copy and do an md5sum check to ensure that it's good.

Okay, but I'm not seeing a way to DOWNLOAD ubuntu without a disc or usb, disc doesn't work and I don't have a usb stick. Unless someone knows a bittorrent client that ubuntu supports, I might not be able to download.

From here: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+question/130630

- if you are using Windows please install a torrent client i suggest you http://deluge-torrent.org/
and download the iso using a .torrent link from here:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/10.10/ubuntu-10.10-desktop-i386.iso.torrent

If you are using Ubuntu there is already installed Transmission software to manage torrents
