Ubuntu 10.10 Installation problems

Asked by chasmcg

10.10 will not install. Tried 4 times. Twice from CD and twice from Win 7 desktop. From CD directly it asks what language and after hitting 'enter' that is basically it. Nothing happens. The CD is doing something but it finally quits. I'm never prompted for any information.

Basically the same thing from the desktop. It first reports that it can't find what it's looking for and I keep clicking 'try again' and it goes through all of the 'not present' drives and finally finds the cd and it says it needs to restart to finish installation. After selecting ubuntu at startup, nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I've downloaded twice and burned 3 CDs. Windows 7 64 bit is present. I'm willing to format but I've never seem that option.

AMD 64 bit processor 4 core but I'm installing 32 bit ubuntu. Anyone know what might be happening? I've never had the least bit of trouble installing ubuntu 7,8, or 9. But this is pretty bad. I know it's my fault. Thanks.

I ordered the CD. I have no desire to try 17,000 things to install an operating system. Thanks for your reply and help.

Not 17,000, but into the previous answer there are detailed info and troubleshooting

1) download the iso
2) verify the md5sum of the iso
3) made the cd
4) boot the pc entirely from install cd and install

For detail please read the previous answer

Hope this help
