Cannot get 10.10 installed - first time user

Asked by Jo Allen-Fry

Hi there,

I've never used Ubuntu and i'm installing it for the first time on a dell Inspiron mini netbook.

I've got it on a USB pen, working absolutely fine and loading up the installation.

I get to the Who are you? page, am entering the details, but I cannot click 'Forward' - it is just greyed out.

Is there a way around this?

You cannot have capitals or non-alphanumeric items (like periods and pipes) in your username.

Interesting...but I have never used anything but my husband's name in all small letters for the user name, and I am still stuck at this exact same spot. Did the install work for you, after you changed the user name?

Entering a password is mandatory.
For which reason did you not want to have a password ?

I DID enter a password -- every time! I just could not get the "Forward" button to enable, it continued to be greyed out even after all the files were done loading and I got the "Ready when you are" message. ALL of the required information on the screen above was completed, and in compliance with the screen requirements for # characters, etc. I also tried checking and unchecking the box for "password required upon login", but either way the button would not enable.

Exactly what did you enter in each of the boxes (aside from the Password boxes)?
