Did you MD5 test the file you downloaded?
If you made a CD, did you burn it slowly? Did you run the CD self test once initially booted to?
Have you tested your RAM?

I had this error on a usb install, and avoided it by hitting space bar at the first purple screen with the little man and another pic at the bottom, then select lang, then install. (Or F6 also). I think this also avoids a silly complaint about Windows being hibernated, and refusing to mount.
Other errors I encountered were sdb media not found -- had to disable the floppy in the boot sequence.

I did get Ubuntu to load by using a degraded screen mode. After all the updates it went back to normal mode and locks up again. Hopefully this will help a little.

I have difficulties to follow thread.
Did you succeed to "install" Ubuntu and have issues at boot ?
Do you have Grub menu with "Linux/Linux safe mode/Memtest 86" ?
Do you see screen with five dots ?
Do you reach login screen ?

1 did get a menu of what do you want to do.
2. have to select F6 and pick the first option with a return, then start to load the system, if not it just hangs up at various places.
3.I did find out the the less video or screen updating the better it loads. On the last screen where it asks for your name, full name and etc don't say next until it says ready when you are.
4. Yes I could login in and get the updates, but sometimes I had to go to recover mode to get the remainder of the updates.
5. Now once all the updates are completed if you try to do anything it freezes.

I don't know how to get into safe mode.

Hope the helps.

So after installation of all updates, you can login, and it freezes after login.
You could have an issue with latest kernel release. At boot, try the 3rd line and test.
If you can login, issue with graphic card is less probable. At boot, try the 2nd line and confirm it changes nothing.
Can you check computer freeze when you boot on Ubuntu CD/USB stick and choose "Try without install" (the used graphic driver is usualy more reliable).

Tried all of the above and none worked also tried without install and when I tried to update it froze again.

Which version of Ubuntu coud I try to see if the updated kernel is the problem?

delance (olivier-delance) said :

You could "Try without install" 10.4.1.

10.4 did not work either.

Here is what I did.
1. Loaded 10.10 back on with the these options, VGA=771 and acpi=off.

2. This got me up to the re-start tthen I did the re-start.

3 Whent to adminstration to get the upgrades, started the upgrades then it got an error.

4. then I got to another screen and selected low grafics mode, no help got the same error.

5. Got back to the same screen and selected the option under low grafics mode which put it in text mode and all the updates completed.

6. Now it still hangs up, whento Ubuntu software down load and tried to down load and it starts then freezes.

7. Hope the helps.

. Now since it is still loaded is there something else I could try.

I do believe it all loaded fine because there were no grafics, it is when I went to use it after all the updated were completed it whent back into grafics mode and froze. That is my opinion.
