Asked by Conway Sassoon

Hi,
Im trying to install ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop which is currently running linux suse 11.
I downloaded ubuntu from the website onto another machine running windows xp, i created a bootable usb disk following the instruction at the ubuntu website.
i've tried to boot from the usb on my linux machine and it doesnt seem to recognize it.i also tried it on my windows machine and it also didnt pick it up. when i plug the usb in to my linux machine while running it says there is software on it and asks if i would like to run it, i press run and it says there is no autorun program.
Please help me install ubuntu!!!
Thanks

Did you MD5 test the file you downloaded?

How did you put the image onto the USB stick? What image did you download?

sorry for ignorance but what is MD5? i'm new to Linux. I dont think it did.
I've tried Universal USB installer and the usb creator that came with the .iso to put the image onto the USB.
I downloaded ubuntu -10.10-desktop-i386

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

You have used an unverified ISO and you have no idea if it is complete or consistent. MD5 testing is not unique to Linux in any way.

i'm wondering if you set your bios to boot off the usb drive. sounds like you may not have.

press either ESC or F12 (depending on your machine) to get to the boot menu and choose boot from usb drive.
