Setup Trouble

I am quite new to Ubuntu and I am having trouble getting it set up. While it is loading and I am entering all of my information (time zone, keyboard setup and user name) once it gets to the user name and password portion it will not let me click the "forward" button also the "skip" button does not work either, is this a normal occurrence? How do i get to the normal user interface and desktop? thank you for your help.

Many people had issues on this screen, when they used upper case letter in user name.
Please enter your user name only with lower case and digits.

I do not know if that was the issue or not, i simply reinstalled the program and started over. (I was annoyed so i didn't bother to capitalize my user name :P) thank you for your response though
