The problem seems to be the incorrect quoting of uuid of the disk/partition in the grub file.

Before I can suggest the solution, can you tell whether you installed grub when installing ubuntu or did you edit the grub file of the fedora installation that you mentioned in your question?

No I didn't install grub and with fedora I did nothing just installed fedora and it worked

Ok, I think there is some mix up in the communication. So let me put it another way.

While installing Ubuntu, the installer must have asked you whether you want to install grub. Did you say 'yes' to that question or did you proceed without installing grub?

If, as per your last comment, if you did not install grub, then you will have to update the grub file of an existing system to link your new Ubuntu installation.

Not if this is your main work machine and have important data on it. However, if this is just a test machine, and you DON'T mind losing all the data including other operating systems that you have installed on this computer, you may go ahead with it and when it asks to install grub, say 'yes'

Hmmm... may be 'boot loader' instead of 'grub'?

At the very end of the installation process. After it asks you to enter administrator password, a name for your machine, username, etc.

"While installing Ubuntu, the installer must have asked you whether you want to install grub. Did you say 'yes' to that question or did you proceed without installing grub?"
In 10.10 Maverick, you are not asked explicitly where you want to install grub2. Grub2 is by default installed on sda, which is usually first hard disk. By installing Ubuntu, you installed automatically grub2.

The message "alert /dev/disk/by-uuid/eda6f45b-23eb-4469-80e9-5a8f3294bbc7" means grub2 doesn't find a disk with such a signature.
For a classical installation, you should have to follow:
       https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20from%20LiveCD

As you have Fedora, there is a conflict about whats "/boot" folder to use for Grub2. Some people make a dedicated "/boot" partition and mount it in both distros: Fedora and Ubuntu.

No, I'm not a bot.
I'm at corporate office between two client contracts with lot of time for few days, and I specialized myself on issue about installation and boot.

My data are a little too old!
Fedora 13 use Grub Legacy and Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 use the new Grub2. And each grub use a different MBR at start of disk and read different files in /boot. So it's more complicated I have told.
Each time a new kernel is delivered, Maverick will update boot process. And I presume Fedora will do the same. So each one will overwrite boot process of the other.
I have to look at google for solutions.

Dual boot Ubuntu/Fedora looks a little complicated.
The process I propose is:
1) Boot on Ubuntu 10.10 CD, with "Test without install" to check is hardware is well managed (graphic card, WIFI, ...) with installation drivers.
2) Install Ubuntu 10.10 to check it works with post-installation driver (it can be a different driver for video, as installation process use a reduced set of functionality.
It would be stupid to spend lot of energy in case Ubuntu doesn't work well on computer. And it would be too complicated to manage simultaneously Ubuntu hardware problem and multi-boot problem.
3) Solve all issues with Ubuntu 10.10
4) Define how to do a multi-boot.
For this last step, do you work with a single hard drive ?
Do you also have Windows to manage ?
I read some threads, and they advise to do chain loading. It consists for each OS, except the master one, to install MBR in a partition, and that master boot loader don't load other OS but boot loader of other OS. But I need to get more data.

Did you envisage usage of virtual machine, like Virtual Box, which consists to run one OS inside another one ?

So you want a triple boot XP/Ubuntu/Fedora.

How is configure today your dual boot XP/Fedora ?
What is your knowledge in boot loading ?
How do you want to dispatch your OS on both hard disks ?

Issues to manage will be:
   1) chaining 3 boot loaders ( Windows NTLDR/ Ubuntu grub2 / Fedora grub legacy)
   2) partitioning with LVM of Fedora (could it be possible to avoid LVM in Fedora installation)
   3) managing kernel updates by both Ubuntu and Fedora

OK, it's simpler!
Best is:
1) boot on Ubuntu CD and choose "Try without install"
2) System->Administration->Gparted.
Now erase all Fedora partition, so Ubuntu will be able to guess where to install
3) Click on icon "Install"
4) When Ubuntu ask you where to install, choose "Free space"
5) Ubuntu will install on cleaned disk and make a dual boot loader
6) Reboot
Grub will propose you both Ubuntu and Windows

Can you help with this problem?
