Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Installation

Asked by William Pabon

I have a separate hard drive on my Windows XP machine that will be dedicated exclusively to the Ubuntu OS, and have a dual boot system. At what stage of the installation(graphical) process I tell the installer to do that? Please, help.

You will just have to set that Ubuntu installs on the second hard drive, and that is it. Ubuntu will do the rest. When you install Ubuntu, you will have Ubuntu´s grub menu, where you will be able to select between Windows and Ubuntu.

if you want to keep current MBR (first sector of disk) installed by Windows, and Ubuntu not modifying your Windows disk, set Ubuntu disk as first one and Windows as second one. At installation, Ubuntu will detect Windows OS, install its MBR in Ubuntu disk, make a dual boot with Windows and if you select Windows, make it believe it is on first one by switching by software the two disks.
