Sorry that I took my eye off the ball, Steve. I've had other problems
that were more important to me, and, as you already noticed, I had
already found a bypass and moved on.

I see the intrepid beta is mow available, so I will try a clean install
on the same machine to see whether this problem can be closed. (I am
surprised that so many users are reporting duplicates of this problem,
so perhaps there is still something to discover from my efforts).

I'll be back to you in a couple of days - the iso is downloading now, so
I'll install as soon as I find enough free time.
