I tried the hint from a2d2, but with no success. Ubiquity crashed and was not impressed by reiserfs.
However, I worked around this problem by doing the following: In VMware (under Win XP), I installed Ubuntu 8.10 x64 in a virtual machine. Then I copied the initrd.img file to the host, booted into my working Ubuntu 8.04, and copied the initrd.img file to the parition of Ubuntu 8.10. Then I modified my menu.lst and voilà... Ubuntu 8.10 boots!
If anyone is interested in my initrd.file, I published it here:
Hi everyone!
I tried the hint from a2d2, but with no success. Ubiquity crashed and was not impressed by reiserfs.
However, I worked around this problem by doing the following: In VMware (under Win XP), I installed Ubuntu 8.10 x64 in a virtual machine. If anyone is interested in my initrd.file, I published it here:
http:// temp.mkcs. at/linux/ initrd. img-2.6. 27-7-generic
I guess it should work for all Ubuntu 8.10 x64 installations.
