ETA for 2024a?

Asked by k

Hello,

Is there any chance of 2024a being fast tracked until tomorrow? I live in Kazakhstan and we move time zones on 2024-03-01 00:00 UTC+06, and the tzdata update is yet to arrive.

All Debian servers I manage have received 2024a more than two weeks ago and report the correct time zone with this simple test:

$ date --date=2024-03-01 +%z
+0500

I am preparing to move my Ubuntu machines to Asia/Ashkhabad as a temporary workaround, but there are a lot of improperly managed or unmanaged servers out there whose users will be unplesantly surprised on March 1st.

I fully understand the responsibility lies with our politicians who haven't given enough time to prepare, as they tend to do.

See also Bug #2052739

The new version is already in the -proposed repositories and testing has been competed yesterday.
So I hope that the publication in the -updates repositories will happen today,

No dice. Only a couple more hours until March.

It's unfortunate the project wasn't given enough time to follow due process, and I wouldn't expect anyone to break it because of others' bad decisions.

Thanks anyway, your work is appreciated.
