tzselect depreciated?

Asked by Patrick Haverkamp

Is tzselect depreciated?
If dpkg-reconfigure tzdata is the correct way to edit your timezone, why is tzconfig or tzselect even installed?
tzselect is very misleading

Which Ubuntu version?
On Hardy I don't have those packages installed.
tzselect is rather an informative tool than config, please note:
man tzselect

dependencies:
apt-cache showpkg tzdata

tzconfig is part of tzdata package in Intrepid and Jaunty, (it isn't included though in Hardy).
tzselect is part of libc6 package.
See packages list and changelogs here:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid-updates/tzdata
http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/libc6

Quote changelog tzdata:
tzdata (2007f-10) unstable; urgency=low
  * debian/postinst: only print "Run 'dpkg-reconfigure tzdata' if you wish
to change it." message when not using dpkg-reconfigure. closes:
    #428083.
