@onanadog: once you have downloaded a torrent file( make sure its legal :) ), you open that file using transmission torrent client and it will open a window asking for the location where you want to save the downloaded file. After that it will start downloading file which certainly depends on your internet speed.
Rest you can see on youtube if you want a demonstration for the same, although its not that difficult.

@HEctor, there are numerous torrent client, but i personally like transmission because its not heavy and has easy interface. in KDE you have Ktorrent which has better gui but looks heavy to me.
