associate file type with application

Asked by Håkan

I have used Transmission as torrent client (and I do not like it) and now is switching to Deluge.
Because I still am downloading and seeding to/from Transmission I do not want to uninstall it just yet, but on the other hand start using Deluge.
When downloading a new torrent it automatically is associated with Transmission and starts downloading using this client. However, I like Deluge to take over this function from now on (and when all downloading and seeding is done on Transmission I will uninstall this)
In short I like to have deluge as the default clinet for new torrents - How do I get this ?

Download a torrent file using your browser, then right click it and select 'open with other application'. Select Deluge (or type its command) and tick to 'rember the association' (or however it's worded).

The association will now be remembered for you. This is the same in Windows and Mac too. Have you never done this?

Indeed I am used to Windows.
The problem is to find the the program to associate with (in this case Deluge)
I do not find the equivalent to .exe file or its command as you write. Appreciate some guidance

As a relative newbie- things like this happens - have patients!!

if you run:

which deluge

You will be told which binary is used, associate it with that command :)

Can you help with this problem?
