If it is from you to a friend you can use SFTP which comes as part of openssh-server. Your buddy can then connect to the service and copy the file (or files). Ubuntu can connect as they are, Windows is primitive and needs a client like Filezilla.

Using transmission can be done, you will need to publish a torrent to a tracking server, then have your buddy open the torrent with their client.

Should help.Obviously if you want to make your own torrent which can be spread around the torrent community in the normal way then you will NEED to use torrents. To simply send the file to one user I suggest you use SFTP

Can you help with this problem?
