Transmission freezes when downloading HD Movies

Asked by Zabeel M Basheer

Hi All,

I'm using a HP Pavilion DV6000 laptop with Centrino Duo processor, 3GB RAM and 500GB HDD under Ubuntu 10.10. Whenever I try downloading any HD movies via Transmission, it freezes every time and I could not even kill the process. Ultimately, I need to restart the system and pause the torrent of HD movies. Is there any fix for this already? I tried searching the forum, but I could not find a definite answer.

 Kindly help.

Thanks!
Zabeel

The data shouldn't really matter

try:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:transmissionbt/ppa; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get -y upgrade

Gets you a later version

I tried this but still its freezes. But when I try downloading torrents of a smaller size file, it works fine. Only when adding the torrents of HD movies (>10GB files) it freezes.

So if you had an HD movie of less than 10Gb, does it freeze?

Did you try the PPA?

I did try the PPA. No file less than 10GB freezes. I tried deluge software and it worked. So ditching transmission for deluge. :-)
