I cannot seem to close all the transmission entries in System monitor. I could stop on transmission entry. But the second one changed its status from sleeping to running to stopped and now it is stuck on Zombie and I cannot End Process.
It is also using 98-100% of my CPU

I really need help with this please

I have also noticed when viewing system monitor that winecfg.exe is also still running and cpu id 75-80%. even though I closed wine down.

There seems to be some serious problem here i really would like to help to get fixed and learn what is the problem

I used "top" command and it opened all the highest CPU usage running processes in terminal.

I then clicked "k" to type kill and it showed "PID to kill:" I then typed in transmissions PID which is 8215. it then showed: "Kill PID 8215 with signal [15]:" I typed "Y" for yes. But it did not kill transmission process.

But the above did work for winecfg.exe. it usccessfully killed the winecfg process.

Can you give the output of:

ps -ef | grep -i trans

Here is my "ps -ef | grep -i trans" Output:

mark@mark-laptop:~$ ps -ef | grep -i trans
mark 5511 1 28 16:36 ? 00:00:11 transmission
mark 5566 5549 0 16:37 pts/0 00:00:00 grep --color=auto -i trans

I can Close, End Process and Kill Process successfully now. (Not sure why I can do this now) But i'm glad I now can.
But. Transmission still cannot start properly. It gives me this error message:

Transmission cannot be started
Transmission is already running, but is not responding. To start a new session, you must first close the existing Transmission process.

It opens the transmission GUI for a few seconds. Then completely greys out, and freezes.
It also shows transmission as being Zombie status in System monitor.
As I mentioned I can now close Transmission successfully using system Monitor. So my main issue seems to have rectified itself somehow.
I would still like assistance in fixing why transmission will not start. and also trying to learn why this is too

Try:

kill -9 5511

This will kill it dead. It is already running. The "grep --color=auto -i trans" is simply the grep program running and will appear in all commands like this.

You can now start the app.

I am still having trouble with transmission. When I start it transmission the GUI appears. But it is Greyed out. and will not start correctly. I cannot use transmission because of this.
System Monitor shows transmission is stuck in sleeping status.
I have uninstalled transmission using synaptics. re-started Ubuntu and reinstalled. but the same problem re appears after Ubuntu re-start. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx)
How can I fix this issue. Can you help ?

Try:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:transmissionbt/beta; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade

see if that helps.
