Why is "Enable Thunderbird email indexing" grayed out in Tracker Indexing Preferences?

Asked by Endolith

I was looking through Tracker Indexing Preferences, and in the Emails tab, the only thing that's clickable is Evolution. Thunderbird, Kmail and Mailboxes are all grayed out. Why? I use Thunderbird.

According to jamiemcc at ubuntu forums http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3649334

"Thunderbird support is experimantal only and disabled in gutsy (would not be wise to enable an experimental feature in gutsy especailly as it needs more testing and refining)"

Does this answer apply to the "Additional mbox style mailboxes..." section of the same Email tab of tracker-preferences? If so, it's very confusing to have disabled gui bits for non-existent functionality. It should just be absent.

Believe it or not I still use pine (in the form of alpine), and I've been unable to convince trackerd to index the mbox-format files in ~/mail.

Is Thunderbird support still experimental for intrepid? The feature seems to be in flux.
