This is a known issue, and is fixed in version 2.28.2-0ubuntu2, which is currently in "karmic-proposed" (assuming you're running Karmic).

To download it, enable "karmic-proposed" in the Updates tab of Software Sources, then open Update Manager, UNCHECK EVERYTHING EXCEPT totem, totem-common, totem-mozilla, totem-plugins, and totem-plugins-extra, and then click "Install Updates." AS A RULE, DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING FROM KARMIC-PROPOSED UNLESS YOU HAVE A REASON. Then go back to Software Sources and disable "karmic-proposed."

Or, if you don't want to do that, just wait until the update moves from "karmic-proposed" to "karmic-updates" and it shows up in Update Manager without you having to do anything.

Save yourself a lot of trouble:

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

flash is a little spotty, so every now and then, you'll want to disable it in Firefox. I normally keep flash disabled unless I need it for something (keeps those stupid ads at bay). In Firefox, go to Tools > Add-ons >Plugins
