PS I'm a total newbie to linux ... of any sort. Pretty good with all versions of Windoze. The supplied video player, totem, does not seem to be able to play any formats out of the box.
Thanks for your patience

you can add support for almost any format by reading https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats

unfortunantly we don't ship these by default for various reasons, have fun

On occasion you may find that totem won't play some formats or does but not at the quality you would like so it may also be worth while looking into the video players mplayer and xine.

Welcome to linux and I hope you find it an enjoyable experience and not too confusing. (The forums and the wiki are excellent places to find guides and information)

I cant get totem to do anything.
Mplayer is handling audio though I have to open files in a fiddly way, navigating to them by specific type.
but I can't persuade it to do dvd
I cant get easyubuntu installed either.
(Real 10 is OK but wont do dvd either)

Can you help with this problem?
