Do the audio files play correctly in totem or do they only have issues when played from your MP3 player?

ave you tried other players:
Audacious, Banshee, Beep Media Player, Listen, Quod Libet, Rhythmbox, Exaile, XMMS2 (GTK/Gnome based) and Amarok, JuK (Qt/KDE based)

See how they do. Have you installed

ubuntu-restricted-extras (if you run gnome)
kubuntu-restricted-extras (if you run kde)
xubuntu-restricted-extras (if you run xfce)

Have you tried adding the medibuntu repo and installing:
w32codecs (if your Ubuntu is 32bit)
w64codecs (if your Ubuntu is 64bit)

You can find out your architecture using:

uname -a

if you see i686 on that line, its 32bit. If you see x86_64 then its 64bit

Peace
