Totem Movie Player - need plugins for avi, wmv, wma, divx,rm,and quicktime files

Asked by CMoulton

I am trying to play Realplayer, WMV, WMA, QT, Divx, and AVI formats in which Totem Movie Player wants to download gstreamer. I am a little confused as their are so many versions of gstreamer. For example, what is the difference between "good or bad" or Ugly etc. I have no clue on what to download. Synaptic lists what is install on my system, and also list gstreamer plugins but is very confusing. The add/remove in Ubuntu 9.04 list in search gstreamer ffmpeg video plugin which is a full feature version and also version ugly which states that ugly version could be incompatible with some linux distros. I am not sure on what to install as I don't want to ruin my linux setup. Thanks, Chris

You can try and type
roddy@roddy:~$ gst-inspect | grep wma
ffmpeg: ffenc_wmav1: FFmpeg Windows Media Audio 1 encoder
ffmpeg: ffenc_wmav2: FFmpeg Windows Media Audio 2 encoder
ffmpeg: ffdec_wmav1: FFmpeg Windows Media Audio 1 decoder
ffmpeg: ffdec_wmav2: FFmpeg Windows Media Audio 2 decoder
typefindfunctions: video/x-ms-asf: asf, wm, wma, wmv

If the above doesn't appear try and install gstreamer-tools

type
sudo apt-get install gstreamer-tools
