Vedo che stai utilizzando il driver proprietario ATI, ho avuto anche io un problema simile e l'ho risolto cambiando la configurazione di gstreamer.

Esegui (da shell o dalla finestra esegui apribile con la combinazione di tasti alt+f2) il comando "gstreamer-properties".
Dalla finestra che ti compare, nella scheda video come uscita predefinita dovresti avere come plugin "autovideosink" (Rilevamento automatico); prova le altre due configurazioni, a me con X senza Xv ha risolto :)
